Joe has been writing and shooting food and travel stories for major dailies, news services and magazines around the world for more than fifteen years.

He is a contributing writer at WIRED, specializing in the smart kitchen. He is also a restaurant critic, cookbook author, recipe writer and tester.

In 2014, he moved to Washington State's remote Lummi Island for a year to write the award-winning "Sea and Smoke," a book and cookbook with chef Blaine Wetzel at The Willows Inn. It was published by Running Press in October 2015.

Joe was also named the 2009 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation. As a food critic, he wrote with Le Figaro's Francois Simon—"The Most Feared Food Critic In France"—on the English-language blog, Simon Says.
