Steve Joseph, who helped lead the business founded by his grandfather into connected appliances, is joining smart kitchen platform provider SideChef.
Dacor was one of the first kitchen appliance makers to bet big on the smart kitchen. They launched their Discovery iQ ranges and ovens with Android touch screens ahead of many of the bigger players in the appliance space and, as they become part of Samsung, it's likely they'll continue to evolve their smart kitchen product line.
The man who helped get them into the connected kitchen, Steve Joseph, left the company last fall and has since been acting as an advisor for cooking app-turned-connected kitchen platform company SideChef. Now, it looks like he'll make the transition from advisor to full-time contributor as the company announced they had named Joseph their Chief Product Officer. He is also becoming a partner in the company, which indicates he has assumed partial ownership of the startup.
From the press release:
Joseph will lead SideChef’s new product design and development concentrating on the expansion into the smart kitchen industry. His role will also involve cultivating strategic partnerships, product management, business and channel development, and product marketing and sales. "I'm excited to be joining a company that shares my passion for helping people cook better. Our creative team of food enthusiasts is full of innovative product ideas and I look forward to helping bring them to life," says Joseph. Prior to joining SideChef, Joseph served as an advisory board member for the company and served as President of Dacor, leading the manufacturing, marketing, design and development of ultra-premium kitchen appliances, including the world’s first Android™ controlled ovens and ranges.
Our take: It's an interesting move, inserting a long-time kitchen industry exec into a startup based in China as the company looks to transition to becoming a kitchen platform provider. We're sure Joseph's long ties to execs in the kitchen space as President of Dacor and member of the NKBA board of directors will help the company make inroads as it looks to get appliance makers to use its platform as a foundation for their smart kitchen lineup.
